The nostalgia factor worked, and the league played out with some fun on-field camera angles. What was the product on the field like?

Competitive. Three of the four games were decided by six points or le s, and there were enough big plays on the first weekend to bring back some viewers for Week 2.

Keep an eye on the quarterback play. As a whole, USFL quarterbacks completed 59.3% of their pa ses and averaged 6.0 yards per attempt. That came with eight TD pa ses and seven interceptions.

"Bandit Ball" is back, and coach Todd Haley picked up his first victory in impre sive fashion. Jordan Ta'amu controlled Harrison Butker Jersey the offense with 185 pa sing yards and a TD, but he did throw two interceptions. The Bandits struggled in the running game, but tight end Cheyenne O'Grady had an impre sive game with eight catches for 86 yards. Tampa Bay's defense allowed just 186 yards, and that sets up what should be a good game with the Breakers in Week 2.

2. New Orleans Breakers (1-0)Last game: Beat Philadelphia Stars 23-17Up next: at Tampa Bay Bandits

Kyle Sloter (17 of 27, 150 yards, INT) was efficient in the pa sing game, and he added 30 rushing yards to an effective rushing attack that also featured Jordan Ellis (18 carries, 89 yards, TD) and T.J. Logan Jr. (15 carries, 56 yards, TD). Logan added four catches for 38 yards. Larry Fedora can operate with an offense that revolves around the backs. Vontae Diggs had a pick-six and Davin Bellamy had three sacks.

3. Birmingham Stallions (1-0)Last Bashaud Breeland Jersey game: Beat New Jersey Generals 28-24Up next: at Houston Gamblers (Saturday)

J'Mar Smith scored the game-winning touchdown with 23 seconds left in a thriller with the Generals, and that could get the former Louisiana Tech quarterback more time moving forward. The Stallions managed just 3.3 yards per carry on the ground. Osirus Mitchell had five catches for 96 yards. Cornerback Tae Hayes led the defense with 10 tackles.

4. Houston Gamblers (1-0)Last game: Beat Michigan Panthers 17-12Up next: vs. Birmingham Stallions (Saturday)

The Gamblers built a 17-0 lead on Michigan before holding off a second-half rally for their first victory. The offense managed just 181 total yards. Mark Thompson rushed for 71 yards, and the offense favored a low-risk pa sing game with Clayton Thorson, who finished 9 of 17 for 73 yards, a TD and an interception. Emmanuel Ogbah Jersey Reggie Northrup's 95-yard scoop-and-score was the highlight for the defense. We're going to need to see more from the offense against the Stallions in a battle of 1-0 teams in Week 2.

5. Michigan Panthers (0-1)Last game: Lost to Houston Gamblers 17-12Up next: at New Jersey Generals (Friday)

The Panthers shook off three turnovers and nearly rallied for a victory against the Gamblers. Shea Patterson shook off one of those early turnovers and finished 17 of 25 for 192 yards and a TD. Stevie Scott III (72 rushing yards) and Cameron Scarlett (66 rushing yards) are a legit tag-team in the backfield, and linebacker Frank Ginda led the defense with 10 tackles. Jef Fisher will have this team in the hunt.

6. New Jersey Generals (0-1)Last game: Lost to Birmingham Stallions 28-24Up next: vs. Michigan Panthers (Friday)

The Generals mi sed an opportunity by allowing the Stallions to march down the field for the game-winning TD with the help of a costly face-mask penalty. That spoiled a solid dual-quarterback effort from Luis Perez, who finished 13 of 18 for 143 Laurent Duvernay-Tardif Jersey yards and two TDs, and De'Andre Johnson, who had 98 yards rushing. Expect that time-share to continue. Safety Shalom Luani was a stud with eight tackles and an interception.

7. Philadelphia Stars (0-1)Last game: Lost to New Orleans Breakers 23-17Up next: vs. Pittsburgh Maulers (Saturday)

The Stars couldn't get a late stop against the Breakers in a thriller. Bryan Scott had 202 pa sing yards on 26 attempts, and the Stars couldn't get the running game going. Philadelphia controlled the time of po se sion, but two costly turnovers were the Darron Lee Jersey difference. Josh Banderas had an incredible 17 tackles in the lo s. The Stars can bounce back in the USFL's version of an in-state rivalry against Pittsburgh in Week 2.

8. Pittsburgh Maulers (0-1)Last game: Lost to Tampa Bay Bandits 17-3Up next: at Philadelphia Stars (Saturday)

The Maulers made headlines before the game for cutting running back De'Veon Smith for requesting pizza instead of chicken salad, a bizarre story that preceded a rough start against the Bandits. Josh Love and Kyle Lauletta combined for 129 pa sing yards, and the running game stalled with just 2.8 points per game. Linebacker Kyahva Tezino led the defense with 12 tackles and an interception.
