CELEBRATE THE QUEEN'S PLATINUM JUBILEE IN VINTAGE STYLE

This week sees people up and down the country and across the Commonwealth come together to celebrate HRH Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee. While for many, it only feels like a matter of months ago that we were celebrating the Diamond Jubilee, marking 60 years on the throne, this coming long weekend provides us all with a much-needed chance to get out the best crockery and glassware in celebration of the Queen’s 70-year reign. HOW TO GIVE YOUR GATHERING THE AUTHENTIC TOUCH

Whether you’re hosting an event, attending a street party or going to a friend or family member’s gathering, after such a long time without being able to socialise due to the pandemic, the Platinum Jubilee celebrations can provide you with the perfect opportunity to show off some of your fineries.

One of the best things about being able to celebrate the monarchy, and in particular, the Queen’s 70-year reign, is the opportunity it gives to reminisce. Some will remember watching her coronation in 1953, others her Silver Jubilee in 1977, while her Golden and Diamond Jubilees are somewhat fresher in the mind.

Tastes and fashions have gone out of favour only to return in a retro or vintage setting. Many tea sets and dinner services across the country will have been used to celebrate these events. This is the perfect opportunity to add another rich piece of history to their story that will be the source of memories for future generations in years to come.

HOW WE CAN HELP ELEVATE YOUR JUBILEE WEEKEND

There’s still time for you to add to your Jubilee weekend experience by buying some antique tableware to give your celebration an authentically vintage feel.

We have a range of beautiful earthenware teapots, cup and saucer sets, and plates perfect for a street or garden party, or vintage jugs, gravy boats and cruets that add a period feel to your weekend meal.

Crystal cut bowls will elevate your hosting to another level by holding crisps, nuts and other snacks. At the same time, our range of decorous glass wine or liqueur glasses are the ideal vessels to have a little something to toast Her Majesty’s health and longevity upon the throne.

We have perfect mid-century gifts and trinkets that provide any room with an enigmatic conversation starter with guests, and soft furnishings like tea towels, cushion covers, and doilies will add a very authentic British and patriotic feel to the weekend.

EAT, DRINK AND BE MERRY!

The Platinum Jubilee this weekend will be a historical event. Never before in the near millennium of the British monarchy has the reigning Monarch marked a full seven decades on the throne.

With the trials, tribulations and challenges of the past couple of years, the opportunity for the country to come together again and salute HRH Queen Elizabeth II’s remarkable reign will be welcomed by many. For some, it will be a chance to reflect and for others to look forward with renewed hope; however, for everyone, it promises to be a time of celebration, pageantry and community.

Perhaps best of all, it’s another rare chance for beautiful, historic tableware to add another chapter to their stories and shine in the limelight.

When is the big day, and what are some best ways to celebrate this weekend?

THE JUBILEE TIMELINE

The last Monday in May usually marks the Spring Bank Holiday, but this year, it has been moved to Thursday, with an additional Bank Holiday on Friday, especially for the Platinum Jubilee. At 11 am on Thursday 2nd June, the Queen’s Birthday Parade will begin with Trooping the Colour at Horse Guards Parade, culminating in a flypast of historic and modern aircraft over Buckingham Palace. Then, more than 1500 beacons across the UK will be lit, as will 54 beacons in capital cities across the Commonwealth.

On Friday 3rd June, there will be a Service of Thanksgiving at St Paul’s Cathedral with Great Paul, the largest church bell in the country, being rung.

The Queen will attend the Epsom Downs Racecourse for The Derby the following day. There will be a live concert from Buckingham Palace in the evening as hundreds of famous faces come together at the Platinum Party at the Palace to serenade the Queen.

Sunday 5th June will see millions of people come together for street parties as part of the Big Jubilee Lunch, followed by The Platinum Jubilee Pageant, which will showcase how society has changed over the 70-years of Her Majesty’s reign.

WAYS TO CELEBRATE

There are several ways to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with friends, family, and neighbours, or perhaps by taking a day trip to London.

As well as the thousands of street parties taking place throughout the country, many pubs and restaurants will be holding events and special promotions to mark Her Majesty’s milestone. There will be wall-to-wall coverage of all events on television and radio, so why not decorate the front room with the finest in red, white, and blue soft furnishing and decorations? Invite your family and friends around to sit down with your favourite vintage tea set, watch and reminisce on your favourite moments of the past 70-years.

You could locate your nearest beacon and watch the ceremony as they are lit from one end of the country to another in person. At the same time, Saturday evening offers a great chance to fire up the barbecue, open a bottle of bubbly and toast Her Majesty while watching the Platinum Party at the Palace with friends and neighbours. Or perhaps you want to take advantage of what will be a once in a lifetime opportunity to celebrate in person on the streets of London and head into the City to soak in the Union Jack-lined streets, walk through the historic parks in the shadow of Royal London and revel in the pomp and grandeur of the best Britain has to offer.

With the Trooping of the Colour and Platinum Jubilee Pageant, there may even be the opportunity to grab a peek of HRH Queen Elizabeth II herself. It promises to be a weekend like no other, with an atmosphere of pride and revelry.
