The male hormone is usually referred to as testosterone. It is the male sex hormone that regulates fertility, muscle mass, fat distribution or red blood cell production. It is found in humans as well as in other animals. Also, it is found in women but in smaller amounts. It is the most essential part of male sexual development and function.

 

Functions of testosterone: testosterone is the male hormone responsible for developing male sexual characteristics. It is a type of androgen produced primarily by the testicles in cells called the Leyding cells.

After the age of 40, testosterone falls by 1.6 % every year for most men. By the age of 60, a low level of testosterone is the diagnosis of hypogonadism in younger men. 4 out of 10 men have hypogonadism by the time they reach 45 years old.
