For most diabetics, insulin is a word they both love and fear. Love, because injecting insulin is undoubtedly an important way to control blood sugar; fear, in addition to traditional misconceptions such as being addicted, patients are also afraid of the trouble caused by daily injections. CMC Medical teaches you the precautions before injecting disposable insulin syringes.

【Before injection】The key is to prepare well

1. Determine the meal time, make sure to eat within 30-45 minutes after the injection.

2. Prepare alcohol cotton balls, needles, insulin pens and insulins. Note that insulin pens and insulins must be products of the same manufacturer to avoid mismatches. Special syringes must be used to extract insulin to ensure the accuracy of insulin injection doses.

3. Check again whether the dosage form of insulin is within the validity period and whether the seal is undamaged. When using medium and long-acting insulin, the insulin should be mixed evenly, and it can be placed between the hands and rubbed slowly, and should not be shaken violently up and down.

4. When applying human insulin, it is necessary to understand the difference between the concentration of bottled insulin and refill insulin. The concentration of insulin in the refill is: 100U/ml, while the concentration of ordinary bottled insulin is: 40U/ml, the difference between the two is 2.5 times. Therefore, do not use a syringe to extract the refill insulin to prevent hypoglycemia due to concentration differences.

5. If you need to inject two kinds of insulin (short-acting + intermediate-acting insulin) at the same time, you should standardize the operation, first draw the short-acting insulin, and then pump the intermediate-acting insulin, so as to avoid bringing the intermediate-acting insulin into the short-acting insulin bottle.

6. The method of sucking insulin: after washing your hands, disinfect the plastic cap with alcohol, detoxify the syringe, draw a proper amount of air, push the needle plug to the desired insulin scale, first put the insulin bottle mouth up, and stab the syringe. Insert the bottle mouth, push in the air, then turn the insulin bottle upside down, and gently pull out the needle to the exact scale for the desired insulin dose. For example, when mixing two kinds of insulin, the short-acting insulin must be pumped first, and then the medium and long-acting insulins. Take the syringe out of the insulin bottle. If it contains air bubbles, turn the needle upwards, flick the syringe to make the air bubble rise to the neck of the syringe, and then gently push the needle plug to expel it.

The second key is to choose a suitable injection area, and the injection site should choose a fat-rich site.

1. Abdomen: There is a lot of fat and the distribution is relatively uniform. After insulin injection, the absorption speed is uniform and the effect is good. Generally, this part is the best. However, injections within 3cm around the navel should be avoided. Because the tissue in this range is thick, it is easy to cause uneven absorption of insulin, resulting in high and low blood sugar.

2. Front and outer thighs.

3.The outside of the upper arm.

4, buttocks. The above areas should be subcutaneously injected in a planned rotation. The distance between the two needles for each injection is about 1cm. Repeated injections at the same site should not be repeated to avoid local subcutaneous induration, resulting in uneven insulin absorption. The choice of injection site is not only related to the absorption of drugs and the occurrence of complications, but also can reduce pain and facilitate long-term treatment.

If you exercise immediately after injection, you should avoid injection in the upper and lower extremities, so as not to absorb too quickly and cause hypoglycemia. The abdomen is the preferred site for insulin injection. The absorption rate of insulin in the abdomen can reach 100%, the absorption rate is faster and the subcutaneous tissue is thicker, which can reduce the risk of injection into the muscle layer, and is the easiest to perform self-injection.
